Keep meaning human.

Protecting meaning, dignity, and truthful recognition as stories travel through digital systems.

Digital Narrative Care is a practical framework for record integrity, meaning integrity, and aftercare when stories are captured, summarised, stored, or acted upon through digital and AI-mediated systems. It is especially concerned with healthcare, mental health, social care, education, and public service.

Foundation

Digital systems are now deeply involved in how people are understood, recorded, and acted upon. In high-stakes settings, that creates a problem that is still too often treated as secondary: what happens to human meaning when stories move through tools designed for speed, efficiency, or standardisation?

Digital Narrative Care names that missing layer.

Record integrity means keeping records accurate, proportionate, and faithful to what matters, so that people are not reduced to fragments.

Meaning integrity means protecting context, nuance, and interpretation, so that stories do not quietly change shape as they pass through digital tools.

Aftercare means recognising that the consequences of a record do not end when it is written. It asks what support, correction, reflection, or re-entry may be needed once a story has already travelled through a system.

Together, these principles offer a practical foundation for humane, high-stakes digital practice.

Community

DNC is also a place of connection for people working with these questions in real settings: healthcare, mental health, social care, education, safeguarding, and public services. The aim is not hype or posturing. It is to create a thoughtful, welcoming space around serious work: a place to develop language, share insight, compare practice, and think carefully about what humane digital work requires. If you are trying to protect dignity, context, and trust in systems shaped by AI and digital tools, this work is for you.

Movement

Across different sectors, there is growing recognition that digital systems do not simply carry information. They shape how people are understood, remembered, categorised, and acted upon.DNC is part of that wider recognition. It is not a slogan or a finished doctrine. It is an emerging framework for people who can see that something important is missing from many current conversations about digital transformation: care for the meaning of the story itself. The long-term ambition is simple and serious — to help make record integrity, meaning integrity, and aftercare part of the standard grammar of responsible digital practice, and in doing so, to help keep meaning human.
